Meet the Team - Reed Jackson

Good morning everybody! Thanks for sitting down with us to meet the team here at Soul Caffeine! Today we’d like to introduce you to our fourth barista, Reed Jackson. Reed joined us in April of last year, about a month after we opened. Like McNeil, we had met him and his family through our church where he is a musician in one of the praise bands. Coming into his first time working in a coffee shop, he didn’t even drink coffee! Now, a year later, Reed is one of our most knowledgeable baristas on even the in-depth details of coffee, from its growth and production right down to the nuisances of beans from different origins and elevations. He’s definitely a coffee guy now!

Reed has also become one of our top latte artists, second only to Gabe (though he would not mind me sharing that he won an impromptu latte art-off against Gabe last week.)

Reed is a recent graduate of Daphne High School, where he was a varsity soccer player for 5 years, with a club soccer State Championship, State Runner Up finish, and a final four ranking under his belt. We’re sad that he won’t be with us much longer, as he’ll be heading up to Tuscaloosa this August to start classes at the University of Alabama. He (and his antics) will definitely be missed around here!

We asked Reed to share some favorites of his here at Soul…

Favorite Menu Drink – Plain Soul Brew (our signature cold brew coffee) or our signature espresso from Broadway Roasting Co.

Favorite Personal Creation – “20oz cup filled about ¾ of the way with ice, 2 shots of espresso, and then fill the rest up with cold brew. PS – it should definitely be on the menu and should be called the “All-nighter”.

Favorite thing about working at Soul Caffeine – “Always being able to have fun and be creative, teaching other people about coffee, trying to beat Gabe in latte art competitions, and building such close relationships with the team.”

Thanks Soul Caffeine community for spending a few minutes with us to meet Reed today! Come on by the shop and say hello before he’s off to college! By the way, talk to Reed about vintage watches. He knows just about as much about them as he does coffee!)
